Case Study - Finished Goods Despatch for a Multinational Confectionery Company

The company has two factories, each with three palletisers producing pallets of finished goods.

The system first recognises each pallet via a fixed bar code reader, looks up the product code in the company product database and then writes the data for a standard EAN pallet label to a Logopak pallet labeller. The system then interfaces to the conveyor PLC to position the pallet to allow the labeller to apply two labels to the pallet. Data for the pallet is then written to an Oracle database table to update the customer's ERP system.

Pallets are then directed to one of two automatic loading docks depending on an algorithm for routing product to various warehouses. Once loads are complete a loading procedure is provided allowing the truck driver to move a load from the dock to a vehicle and to print out a shipping manifest. The details of the load are then written to an Oracle database in order to update the customer's ERP system.

The system also provides a comprehensive reporting system providing an audit trail of all product produced.

System Benefits -

  • Mission Critical System Controlling Despatch of all finished goods from two factories
  • Real Time update of ERP systems
  • Full Audit trail of all finished goods
  • Real Time update to warehouses of goods in transit
  • Direct Connection to Customer's Master Product Database
